The most spectacular feature of Tarangire is its large elephant population. In fact, it has the largest population of any park in northern Tanzania. These gentle giants abound in excess of 3,000. Tarangire is currently experiencing and elephant baby boom and you will notice a lot of juniors and babies as members of the herd. Also expect to see zebra, eland, mongoose, giraffe, bushbuck, hartebeest, dik-dik, impala, warthog, and reedbuck. Primates you may encounter are olive baboon, velvet monkey and bush baby. Many carnivores are abundant throughout the park such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and jackal

Morning and afternoon game drives in the Tarangire National Park. You can chose to have full day with picnic lunch served in the bush or you can have morning game drive and return to the accommodation for hot lunch and return back for sunset game drive.

You will see zebra, eland, mongoose, giraffe, bushbuck, hartebeest, dik-dik, impala, warthog, and reedbuck. Many carnivores are abundant throughout the park such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and jackal

After breakfast, enjoy a short drive to Lake Manyara National Park. En-route you will take the opportunity to stop and explore MtowaMbu Village. This village is considered a melting pot of the many different tribes in Tanzania. You will love to explore the busy and interesting marketplace. You will arrive at your accommodation, in time to settle in and enjoy a hot lunch. Then in the afternoon you will enjoy a game drive in the park.

Stretching for 50km’s along the base of the 600 meters high Rift Valley Escarpment, Lake Manyara is a scenic gem, with a setting described by Ernest Hemingway as the “loveliest I had seen in Africa”. The compact game-viewing circuit through Manyara offers a virtual microcosm of the Tanzanian safari experience. From the entrance gate, the road winds through an expanse of lush jungle-like groundwater where hundred strong baboon troops lounge nonchalantly along the roadside, blue monkeys scamper nimbly between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bushbuck tread warily through the shadows, and forest hornbills honk high in the jungle canopy. The park is world famous for its tree climbing lions which you may be lucky to observe. Highlights include thousands of pink-hued flamingos, elephant, giraffe, large buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, baboons and blue monkeys.

Collect picnic lunches and drive to Lake Eyasi, which is a mildly alkaline lake about 50km in length. The meadows along the shores of the lake are home to leopards, hippos, various monkeys and birds. Lake Eyasi offers excellent views of the Rift Valley escarpment and is an ideal destination for relaxing and bird-watching.

Among other places, you will visit the Datoga pastoralists and members of the Hadzabe tribe. The Hadzabe are one of two remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in Tanzania. There are approximately 1500 families left in this tribe

Depart for some Cultural visits in the area. Eyasi is the home of a hunter-gatherer tribe known as the Hadzabe who have withstood the progression of westernization, and still live their ancient way of life; hunting animals and gathering fruits and tubers for food. The Hadzabe are a small ethnic group that has been able to co-exist harmoniously with nature. You will also have the chance to meet the Datoga people, another small tribe with a rich cultural heritage.
Lunch will be served at the camp. Late in the afternoon, drive to Karatu for dinner and overnight.

The wildlife encounters continue as you transfer today from Karatu into the Serengeti National Park. Your transport into the park is by Safari vehicle, and you will enjoy the magnificent views over the endless plains from the jeep as you take in your surroundings for the next 4 nights.

Enjoy visit a traditional Maasai village here you will be greeted by the Chief who will guide you around the nearby Boma and explain the culture of the Maasai people. After saying goodbye to the Maasai people, you will head towards the Serengeti National Park. Enjoy lunch en-route as you head towards the entry gate for the world famous Serengeti National Park. Tanzania’s oldest and most popular National Park, also a world heritage site and recently proclaimed a 7th world wide wonder, the Serengeti is famed for its annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebras and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa

After breakfast in the morning you will start game drive in the eastern, southern or north part of the park. The aim is to get you within a comfortable driving distance of the massive herds. This does depend on the annual rains. Guides will always try to get you as close as possible, but should the herds not appear when expected, there is plenty of resident game.

Optional activities: Hot air balloon safari
